Zanskar Cultural Tour

Zanskar valley is the most fascinating one having magnificent monasteries and great Himalayas. Visiting Monasteries like Sani which is one of the 8 holiest Buddhist sites in the world. The Rangdum monastery has tiny "museum" with interesting Tibetan and other artifacts. Karsha Monastery being largest in Zanskar has a number of shrines and has been embellished with exquisite paintings. Explore the terrain, cultures and heritage of Zanskar without extensive hiking.

Day 01: Arrive Delhi

Arrive Delhi, transfer to hotel for few hours.

Day 02: Flight Delhi - Leh

Transfer to domestic Airport for fly to Leh. Arrive Leh, transfer to hotel. Day is at complete leisure to get you fully acclimatize with the altitude of Ladakh. Evening explore Leh Bazar. Overnight at hotel in Leh. (3500 m)

Day 03: Sightseeing Matho – Stok – Shanti Stupa - Samkar

After breakfast, drive to Stok (14km) by crossing a bridge over Indus river Indus at Choglamsar village. In Stok, visit the royal palace, constructed by the king Tsespal Tondup Namgyal in 1825AD. Inside the palace, you see great collection of ancient royal ornaments, Thankas (scroll paintings) and old statues. After the visit, drive to Matho village, 10 km from Stok. This monastery was built by Lama Tumgpa Dorje in 13th century. Two famous oracles (known as Rongtsan), (who were invited from Tibet by the founder of this monastery) still make appearance during the festival of monastery. After visiting Matho, drive back to Leh. Evening, visit Shanti Stupa and Sankar Monastery in Leh. Overnight at Hotel in Leh.

Day 04: Full day Sightseeing to Shey – Thiksey – Hemis

After breakfast, drive to Hemis monastery (45 km) 90 minute drives. The great Mahasiddha Staktsang Raspa along with 35th King Singey Namgyal built this biggest monastery in 16th century. After visiting this monastery, drive back to Thiksey monastery (27 km). This monastery is the oldest monastery of Gelugpa School in Ladakh. The great Lama Paldan Shesrap built in 14th century. Enjoy the spectacular view of Indus valley from the roof of monastery. Visit this most beautiful monastery and its statue of the Future Buddha. After visiting this monastery drive back to Leh via Shey (Ancient capital of Ladakh). Visit the Shey Palace and temple. Inside the temple, you visit big copper gilt statue of Lord Buddh built in 1633AD.Overnight at Hotel in Leh.

Day 05: Drive Leh – Alchi – Lamayuru – Wanla - Tarchit (156 km)

Today you drive on Leh-Srinagar highway. After breakfast drive to Lamayuru (126 km and 4hrs drive). En-route visit Alchi village (68 km) and monastery. It was built by Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo (The great translator) 1000 years ago and is considered to be the largest among the entire monastery built by him. After the visit, continue to Lamayuru still 58km. Arrive Lamayuru and visit the monastery. This monastery was constructed by Arahat Nimagung in between 10th and 11th century.History says that in the 11th century, the Mahasidha Naropa visited this place and the cave where he resided and meditated is still to be seen inside the monastery. After the visit, drive back till small monastery on the bank of Yapola River. Leaving behind highway, you enter in awesome Yapola valley. Continue drive along the road as far as wanla. If time permits, visit Wanla monastery. Pass the village and continue drive for two kilometers to reach at campsite in Tarchit. Good and nice campsite near Yapola River. Overnight at camp. (3300m)

Day 06: Trek Tarchit - Phanjila – Hinju (5/6 hrs)

From the camp, nice and gentle walk up along right bank of upstream Yapola River as far as Phanjila. Then take left valley and continue gentle trek up along the upstream small river below. At some point the trail goes up ascending across dense trees. Gently climb up and you reach near a house from where you ascend slowly for few meters towards road. Continue along the road as far as Hinju village (beautiful isolate village). Pass the village and continue trek along right of the valley till you reach at campsite near small river. Overnight camp at Hinju. (3870m)

Day 07: Trek Hinju – Kongski-la (4950m) - Sumdachenmo Dok (6 hrs)

From camp you go along with the river. At the end of the river, you pass through the nomadic summer camp of village of Hinju and then steep ascent to the Kongskila pass. While enjoying the landscape of the surrounding wonderful mountains and valley, gently ascend to the pass. From the top, you enjoy awe inspiring view of landscape of the enchanting valley far flung view next day's passes to cross. Easy and gentle descent down in the valley and continue down as far as Sumdochenmo dok. Possible to see troupe of Yaks. of Overnight camp near Small River. Overnight at camp (3950m)

Day 08: Trek Sumdachenmo – Lanak-la (4210m) – Base of Dundunchanla (5 hours trek)

After breakfast, start the trek along with the riverside and gorges. On the way, you pass across a beautiful and charming village with few houses known as Sumdochenmo. Visit local house and take some refreshment after then continue trek on right-side down in the splendid valley as far as River. Cross the small river, then gradually climb up to the steep pass Lanakla (4300 Mt). Enjoy the view of superb and spectacular mountains and valley from the top. Cross the pass, you keep on easy and gentle trek as far as Dundunchen base with awe inspiring view. You may be able to see domestic and wild animals around here. Overnight camp at base of Dundunchen. (4250m)

Day 09: Trek Lanak – Dundunchan-la (4720m) - Chilling (5/6 hrs)

Morning after breakfast, right from the camp gradually ascend up towards the Dundunchen pass. You pass across Shepherds, displaying their handmade skills and things and asking you to buy their products, of Chilling village while climbing the pass. From the pass, you everlasting lost landscape of surrounding valleys and snow clad peak of huge towering stunning mountains. Enjoy the unforgettable scenery of Awe inspiring view of massif peak of Kangyatse (6400m) and Stok Kangri (massif peak, 6100m).
Easy steep descend, with imposing view of surrounding spectacular valleys and Zanskar River, as far as riverbed to cross the river 2 to 3 times up to Chilling. Late afternoon, explore village, its famous craftsmen and visit monastery and local house. Overnight camp at Chilling (3210m)

Day 10: Trek Chilling – Tsogsti (4 hrs)

Leave camp after breakfast for Tsogti. Easy trek through stunning and exquisite gorges along left bank of downstream Zanskar. Cross motor bridge then turn right and take villager trail that leads to Tsogsti village. Continue easy ascend few minutes towards the beautiful small village Tsogsti (few houses). Explore the culture of village by visiting local house. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the valley and surrounding huge spectacular mountains. Overnight at camp in Tsogti village. (3300m)

Day 11: Trek Tsogsti – Palam base (6 hrs)

Morning after breakfast, continue trek with gradual steep long ascend to Palam through gorges. The path goes up in zigzag as far as Palam base. On the way, you pass across summer camp of Tsortsi with as many as domestic animals grazing across the meadow. Today, you camp at the high altitude (5100m) with spectacular and magnificent view of landscape. Good and nice campsite near spring water. Overnight at camp (5040m)

Day 12: Trek Palam Base – Palam-la (5360m) - Ganda-la (4900m) - Gandala base (6/7 hrs)

Today you cross the Palam pass (5300m). From the top of the pass, you enjoy feeling in blue sky and Awesome panoramic full view of Indus valley and stunning, magnificent towering mountains like pillar in the sky and its snow covered peaks. Cross the pass then descend easily towards Gandala pass (4700 Mt) and then steep easy descend as far as campsite. Overnight camp at Gandala Base. (4400m)

Day 13: Trek Gandala base - Zinchen then drive to Leh (3/4 hrs trek)

After breakfast, you enjoy easy and gentle trek down in the valley towards Zingchen. Today you cross the river 3 times and go down along with the riverside up to Zinchen and you pass across several colonies of Marmots, beautiful and charming village of Rumbak and Zingchen. Arrive Zinchen drive to Leh. Overnight at hotel in Leh. (3500m)

Day 14 : In Leh

Day free. Overnight at Hotel in Leh.

Day 15: Flight Leh – Delhi

Early morning transfer to airport for return flight. Arrive Delhi, transfer to hotel. Afternoon, visit Old and New Delhi.

Day 16: In Delhi - Departure

Day Free or Visit. Late evening transfer to International Airport to catch return flight to your home country.

Day 17: Arrive your Home Country.
